LOURDES FISA. A TRIP THROUGH TIME
“For the creative artist’s reality sensation, time, space and causality must be beyond doubt, as essential and because they are the only means of representing and convincing”
Volker Michels. Herman Hesse: Readings for minutes. 1971
Following met the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, Lourdes FISA makes a new exhibition and check to see how their stay in Germany before the fall of the wall has influenced his creative career, which also coincides with her years exhibiting her work worldwide. This return to the past, with the fact of having lived so closely this process means a very enriching experience that allows to make a more open and objective about what happened, where the concept of freedom is ever present, making the wall reading instead of separating, dividing, and prohibiting, to be transformed into an open space where dialogue is the protagonist, as we can see in his works.
The exhibition is titled I Eingang I Haus, 11-17 (Enter I House 11-17), which is also the name of the work that occupies a special place in the gallery. It is a rectangular piece that contains a plaque that the artist herself took on a recent trip to Berlin, and invites the viewer to come to see the paintings, engravings and personal letters that form a part, perhaps the most intimate and staff of their creative work. She herself notes that these works are part of the “memory of lived experience, past, present, and what is to come.”
Therefore, the works on display demonstrate how graphic work has been important in understanding her work. You can not dissociate the painting and engraving, as both are part of her creative universe and cause a markedly positive synergy that are benefiting both the spectator and the artist herself. Focussing on the parts that are exposed, we see that painting and graphic works are related. In the first case it is recent work, and the second case refers to the German time, trying to find the link that unites by historical memory, thoughts and personal experiences, and their aesthetic approaches.
Lourdes FISA work can be considered as very unique, differentiating it from other artists of her generation, both by the various techniques employed-the fiberglass, transparencies, glazes …-, for original and creative contribution that can be seen in each of her abstract compositions, which also appear to indicate some elements of reality is concerned. So the collage and printing, through the image or word, are so important to her. Travel, discovery and past research, exploration of unknown spaces and reinterpretation of this, result in a dynamic, versatile and fully contemporary work where conceptual idea is equally important that the objectual.
