Exhibition at Casa LLuvià
COAC. Delegació Architects Bages-Berguedà, Manresa (Barcelona)
from 12th September to 12th October, 2013
“To the architecture,
to the Modernism,
to the past, present and future,
to the melodies of light …Melodies of light is an exhibition that the artist Lourdes Fisa presents in the modernist building of Casa Lluvià, the headquarters of the College of Architects in Manresa, occupying all its space, the three floors of the building, as well as the façade, tower and its outer yard.
“Modernism, a burst of shapes and colors that emerged from the creativity of the architects of the early 20th century, became a patrimonial referent of universal scale in Catalonia. Ignasi Oms, the architect of Casa Lluvià, like the rest of his Contemporary artists leaned on craftsmen, magnificent artists, that gave applied arts the deserved importance. So sculptors, stuccoers, glassmakers, ceramics, carpenters, forgers, and a long etc., made possible the outbreak of modernism in our land.
Intervention of Lourdes Fisa on the façade of the Casa Lluvià
Lourdes Fisa based on the concept of global work, makes an intervention in the entire modernist building that welcomes her exhibition. “Her work is also an example of constant research of new ways and materials where he expresses her entire inner universe. The conceptual nature of her work and her expressive power make her an excellent candidate for a temporary marriage with the spaces of the Casa Lluvià building. Lourdes Fisa, like those artists we mentioned before, adapts her work to architectural spaces, enriching them and dressing them in a new manifestation of the applied arts. The stained glass windows of the exhibition are the better example.
The City Council of Manresa and the Association of Architects, sharing their role as promoters of culture, are once again in the architecture they share at Casa Lluvià, to offer a powerful exhibition by Lourdes Fisa, one of the best artists Today’s Catalan arts, which, despite its youth, have a veteran and quality that have allowed her the international recognition and appreciation of her work. ”

THE PURITY OF THE COLOURS ACCORDING TO LOURDES FISA
The artist Lourdes Fisa with her exhibition “Melodies de llum/Melodies of Light” took part in the architectonical space of the Casa LLuvià in Manresa, which can be visited until October 12th. This means a journey through different textures on different supports (fibre-glass, canvas, wood, paper, glass) which emphasises the necessity of investigation in a changing world. “The work is changing as the light falls in, and the message is clear: there is a will for change, adaptation, metamorphosis”.
Lourdes Fisa was formed as an artist in the world of printmaking. She started her career more than 25 years ago and has had exhibitions in Chicago, Paris, Luxemburg or Lisbon where her pictorial work matches with the universe of the Portuguese poet Camões in the exhibition “Camins de Descoberta. Camões des del Mediterrani”. Now she is presenting her exhibition “Melodies de llum/Melodies of Light” which, being aware of the context of the current crisis might seem a provocation or an invitation for hope.
“With this exhibition I am returning to the roots, e.g. to the world of engraving, that is where I started. The idea of engraving interests me because it is the necessity of incising, of searching, of going to the depths”, she explains. The idea of “Melodies of Light” connects with the utilized materials and supports: Until the moment, the artist had never employed glass in her works, but started three years ago to investigate and create, using this material.
“One of the ideas, which is moving me constantly, is that we are a mixture of different elements and that our identity intermingles with many influences and stiles, which is what my work is transmitting: I use the collage a lot, with different textures, mixing many different materials. During a very long period I was using fibre-glass, a difficult material, cold, to which I was giving organic texture, employing it as if it was a parchment; it’s only recently that I got more interested in glass.”
Using the glass opens up a wide field of possibilities. “It’s transparent, let’s the light come in, changes constantly. It seems to me that it is a magnificent material to portray the present moment with constant and rapid changes.” Lourdes Fisa decided to incorporate the glass in the exhibition, as soon as she knew for sure that she was going to exhibit in a Modernistic environment. She participated in the elaboration of the windows of the tower of the Casa Lluvià with her paintings and she also placed some works, made of glass, of large dimensions, etched and elaborated with paint of oven-vitrified enamel.

“I am interested in bringing the pictorial and sculptural art into dialogue with the architecture of the building where I have my exhibition, in order to create architectural complicities. I understand art as a medium of communication and relation with different arts, and in this exhibition some works widen their aesthetic sense when becoming a functional sense, in the service of architecture”, says Lourdes Fisa while we are visiting the exhibition “Melodies de llum/Melodies of Light” which can be visited in the Delegation Bages-Berguedà of the Catalan College of Architects, in the emblematic modernist building of the Casa Lluvià in Manresa.
